According to Thomas J. Stanley, Ph.D. and William D. Danko, Ph.D., co-authors of the “Millionaire Next Door,” many millionaires do not display material possessions.

I presume, based on the words of MM’s (multi-millionaires) I have heard, the ones who do not have want to look often like they do have it. Then new millionaires are going through a honeymoon stage and want to show it as much as they possibly can. The ones who have had the millions for a while do not want to show it because they do not need the ego-booster, nor are they interested in attracting others such as gold-diggers that may be interested in taking from them.

Or perhaps as they are accumulating wealth, they find it unnecessary to display its accumulation for whatever reason, namely, no need to raise potential envy from any interested parties. Plus it will make a great story when it all looks as if they did it over night when in fact they have, more often than not, been working long hours and often toiling at night while others slept.
