Fallacy of Time Management

Here you will find a cowboy, straight-shooter, competent and competitive seeds type of excerpt from Juggling Multiple and Conflicting Priorities and Deadlines seminar I used to conduct. Feel free to use.

There are two fallacies of time we get hooked into believing: # one is: We think we are going to get more time.

The fact is, folks, you have all the time there is. you are given 24 hrs every single day. You have to spend every single second. You are not going to get one second more. Nor can you save any. You have all the time there is.

861,400 seconds in a day. Sounds like quite a bit.

One of the greatest illusions was seen when day light savings time started. There was a farmer in the south east that wrote a letter to the editor of a local paper, and said I don't think we should have the Day Light Savings Time because that extra hour of sunshine is killing my crops. We fooled somebody, didn't we. But the key is, it is pretty tough to fool ourselves

WE ALL HAVE THE SAME AMOUNT. YOU CANNOT GET ANY MORE.

Another MYTH goes like this: There are many ways to save time.

We are constantly spending. The key is how are We spending that time.

Another MYTH is: The longer you work, the more you get done. Do you agree with that? I know, we sometimes, we do have to work longer in order to get things done.

But do you ever put in one of those extremely long days, maybe 10 or 12 hours; you are absolutely exhausted at the end of the day. Do you look back and look like you accomplished an awful lot?

It happens. Doesn't it? The FACT is this. It is not how long you work. It is the results you get. You see the length of time you work is only the input side of the equation.

Would you agree with that? I think it is good to work hard. It is not contrary to what we are doing. But the FACT is this, and I bet some of you have heard it before. Productive people are working a little smarter, making a little smarter use of their time.
